"We've had 15 customers so far and all 15 have quit smoking," said co-owner John Lumba, who runs the shop with his friend Mike Litto. The two opened the Broadway store on Dec. 23.

Lumba explained that a person looking to quit smoking would come in and purchase a vape machine and some juice. The machines range from $15 to $79 and the juices cost between $15 and $22.

The duo sell handheld vaporizer machines and a wide variety of flavored nicotine "juices," which are FDA approved and absent of any chemicals you might find in a cigarette.

"What happens is the vape makes the cigarette start to taste really bad where you smoke a quarter of a cigarette and you're just throwing them out," Lumba told Daily Voice.

"From there we just tell people to keep vaping and soon enough they make the transition."

Lumba himself is a vaping success story. He was first introduced to vaping in 2010 when he visited San Diego for a Jets Chargers playoff game.

A police officer explained to him that he would not be allowed to smoke a cigarette during the tailgate outside the stadium, and was directed to a nearby vape shop.

"I went there, began vaping that whole weekend, and by the time I came home I didn't smoke anymore."

Garden State Vapes sells juices with varying levels of nicotine to aid even the most addicted smokers.

"If a person smokes a pack a day we put them in a 6-mg, and it usually takes 4 or 5 days to quit smoking," Lumba said.

"It may be even shorter, it's crazy."

Lumba said he and Litto have helped some 1,000 people quit smoking.
