FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Members of Fair Lawn's Office of Veterans Affairs united with Fair Lawn VFW Post 281 and American Legion Post 171 for a flag burning retirement ceremony Tuesday.

Retired Col. Jack O’Neil, the Veterans Council commander, oversaw the ceremony, which is conducted semi-annually to honorably retire torn or worn U.S. flags.

Attendees inclued Mayor John Cosgrove and Councilman Kurt Peluso.

The organizers thanked Fire Inspectors Richard Cook and Don Santangelo, Parks Supervisor Robert Young and the Parks Department staff for assisting with the ceremony.
