Emily Pascual brought "Singers Company" — a California-based singing and dancing program for girls — to Glen Rock five years ago.

The idea is simple.

"It's about boosting their self-confidence," said Pascual, a mom of three and Utah native.

Most of her girls are from Ridgewood, Fair Lawn and Glen Rock, and all are in grades K-5.

There are two shows a year: one on Christmas and one in June. Every girl gets a solo, and Pascual's job is making sure they have the confidence to do it.

Each class begins with share time, an opportunity for the girls to talk freely, and for Pascual to have some one-on-one time with every student.

Sharing progresses over the course of the semester. Eventually, girls will stand next to Pascual while they talk. By the end, they're speaking into the microphone.

"Singers Company's motto is 'My Voice Matters,'" Pascual said. "'I'll share my voice for good."

It's something Pascual often talks about with her young vocalists.

"If someone's sick, or going through a rough time, we send letters," she said. "We also sing and record, so that they're learning how to use their voice for good."
