FAIR LAWN, N.J– Oliver! a musical based on Charles Dickens' novel "Oliver Twist" is coming to Fair Lawn's Old Library Theatre July 29-31 and Aug. 5-7.
"The story brings Victorian England to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker," Producer Craig M. Tiede said. "After escaping London, he finds acceptance in a group of pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft he didn't commit, he's taken in by the benevolent victim, but Fagin employs a sinister duo to kidnap him back into his fold."
Oliver! will be directed by Scott Baird, with music direction by Jack Bender, and choreography by Amy Shera.
The musical will showcase performers ages eight through 80.
"I'm excited to help bring Oliver! to Old Library Theatre, as it truly represents and captures the spirit of our community theater," Tiede said. "We make a concerted effort to bring performers together across generations, with the opportunity to perform musical theater classics new and old. Oliver! has endured for decades because it does what all great musicals do: it makes audiences laugh, cry, gasp, tap their toes and sing along. Our production will be a feast for the eyes and food for the soul."
The Friday and Saturday evening shows begin at 8 p.m. The Sunday matinees start at 2.
