GLEN ROCK, N.J. — A longtime Glen Rock newswoman is on a mission to make a difference in the community.
A year after officially launching "Banana Tree News," a hyperlocal site in Glen Rock, Julie Maxwell Allen held a candy drive for troops in which almost 900 pounds were donated through Operation Gratitude.
Having friends and family in the military, Allen wanted to "give them a little smile," she said. "A touch of home,"
Rock Road businesses helped out by placing collection boxes outside of their shops.
Glen Rock-based Global Transport Logistics, Inc. covered the $1,300 candy-shipping cost to California.
"The soldiers work hard for us," Allen said. "[Operation Gratitude] is a great cause."
