FAIR LAWN, N.J. — Happy birthday to Fair Lawn's Millie Perkins!
Born May 12, 1938, the Passaic native turns 79 years old Friday.
The actress, who starred as Anne Frank in "The Diary of Anne Frank" was born in Passaic, but grew up in Fair Lawn.
Working as a receptionist at a New York advertising agency, a visiting photographer noticed Perkins and launched her modeling career.
By 1958, she was an international cover girl and cast in her first film, "The Diary of Anne Frank," despite no acting experience.
Other roles included Elvis Presley's girlfriend in the 1961 film, "Wild In The Country," and the 1964 film "Ensign Pulver." The film was poorly received and Perkins didn't receive another role for 20 years.
In 1983, Perkins returned to acting, playing Jon Voight's ex-wife in the film, "Party of Five," and has played a number of mother roles since, including as Charlie Sheen's mother in the 1987 movie "Wall Street."
Perkins has 62 acting credits to her name.
