Alpine Drops To USA's 12th Most Expensive Zip Code

ALPINE, N.J. – After once ruling the roost, Alpine has fallen from the Top 10 of the priciest zip codes in the country, according to Forbes.com.

It still remains the most expensive in New Jersey, though.

Alpine ranked 12th, down from sixth in the 2014 poll.

It was No. 1 in 2011.

Forbes reports 61 homes for sale in the area for a median asking price of $4.9 million

Atherton, Calif. ranked first, with a median asking price of $10.6 million.

Northern California took three of the the top 10 places on the list and six of the top 20. New York had two.

To compile the list, Altos Research looks at median home price data for more than 29,500 ZIPs covering 95% of the U.S. population, the report says.

Forbes said it reduced that list to the 500 Most Expensive ZIP Codes.
