FAIR LAWN, N.J. — Edith Wigod of Fair Lawn spent much of her life serving others, so it was considered fitting that a new food pantry at Borough Hall be named for her.
“She was always trying to help people,” resident Wayne Robbins said following Tuesday night's official dedication. “An avid promoter of the food pantry, her whole life was dedicated to helping others.”
The Fair Lawn Food Pantry had been operating as a converted closet for years until Wigod’s son and his family donated what reportedly was thousands of dollars for renovations last year. Edith Wigod was 93 when she died in 2002.
“A beloved Fair Lawn resident who always enjoyed caring for her family and friends and never ceased to put others ahead of herself,” the sign in the new facility says. “Her positive energy and selflessness lives on through this charitable cause.”
