GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- Ara Dedeian, 90, of Glen Rock, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016.
Born in Cuba, he immigrated to the United States at 1 year old and was raised in New York City prior to settling in Glen Rock 50 years ago.
A veteran and prisoner of war, Dedeian proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member and past commander of the VFW Post 850 in Glen Rock. Dedeian also was a member of the POW Chapter #1 of New Jersey.
Active in his community, Dedeian was a member of the Glen Rock Activities Club. An avid bowler, he enjoyed RC modeling, drawing/sketching and bird watching.
Prior to retiring, he was employed with STC in Oakland as a machine and tool designer for many years.
He was the husband of Dorothy (Esaian) Dedeian; father of Gregory Dedeian and wife Frances Shields Dedeian, Markus Dedeian and Kenneth Dedeian and wife Ami La Roche; grandfather of Lily Dedeian and Michele Dedeian Ritter; great-grandfather of Joseph Ritter; and brother of the late Harry Dedeian. He also is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Leon Armenian Church, 12-61 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home Inc., 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn.
