FAIR LAWN, N.J. – Carol Ballerini Crosson of Fair Lawn died Friday, June 3, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood after a battle with cervical cancer. She was 64.
Except for a short time when she and her husband, Jim, had an apartment in Union City, she lived her life in Fair Lawn. Once she raised her family, she entered the business world as a manager of corporate compliance at Guardian Life Insurance Co. at its New York headquarters. She held that position for nearly 17 years. She was a member of the faith community of St. Catharine’s of Glen Rock and throughout her life was devoted to seeking justice for the poor. Soon after graduating from Caldwell College, she became a volunteer tutor in Jersey City, working with the late Father James O’Brien, a priest of the poor. It was while working with poor children that she met her future husband, Jim, a New York newsman who worked as a volunteer with the priest for several years. They married on June 27, 1976.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; three children and their families, Kelly and Chris Ventimiglia of Glen Rock, Rori and Arturo Lopez of Manhattan, and James and Stephanie Crosson of Manhattan; three grandchildren, James of Manhattan, Samuel of Glen Rock and Arthur of Manhattan; a fourth grandchild who is due to arrive this fall; her brother, Gary, and sister-in-law, Margaret, of Maine; and numerous first and second cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, June 7, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral Mass is planned for Wednesday, June 8, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catharine Roman Catholic Church, 905 South Maple Ave., Glen Rock. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
