FAIR LAWN, N.J. – Frederick W. Backmann, a resident of Fair Lawn, died Tuesday, March 15. He was 88.
Born and raised in Union City, he resided in Fair Lawn for 45 years. He served with the U.S. Navy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from New York University. He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Glen Rock. Prior to retiring in 1983, he was an accountant with Colgate Palmolive in New York City for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy R. (Burciar) Bachmann; his children, Craig, Scott, Glenn and Todd Bachmann and their spouses; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 233 South Highwood Ave., Glen Rock. Entombment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
