GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- Joan B. Johnson, of Glen Rock, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 15. She was 97.
She was born in New York City, and received her B.A. degree in speech and theater arts from Brooklyn College. She raised her family in Glen Rock, where she worked as a substitute teacher. She was an accomplished pianist, active in local theater and vocal groups and recording for the blind, and an avid bridge player. She traveled extensively, played golf and competitive bridge into her 80’s, and the piano until the time of her death.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Raymond H. Branda; and her second husband, Henry G. Johnson. Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth Joan Branda and Joyce Rosemary Branda; her step-daughter, Robyn Alsop; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21 at Saint Catharine Roman Catholic Church, 905 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Donations can be made to Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. Go to: www.wolftrap.org.
