Sam De Padova, 92, Longtime Fair Lawn Resident

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Sam De Padova, of Fair Lawn, died on Tuesday, Jan. 24. He was 92.

Born and raised in Paterson, De Padova lived in Fair Lawn for 67 years. He was "a proud and decorated Army veteran of World War II," information from the funeral home noted, and a recipient of the Bronze Star, while serving in the European Theater. 

Prior to retiring at the age of 85, his successful 50-year career as a self-employed master plumber included serving as plumbing inspector for several area towns, including Fair Lawn and Elmwood Park. He was a longtime member of multiple master plumber and plumbing inspector professional associations, serving as officer or committee members in each. 

De Padova received numerous awards, including the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials' 2016 Plumber of the Year. 

He was a life member and quartermaster of VFW Post 281 of Fair Lawn and a member of the Fair Lawn Livewires Club. He was also a parishioner of Fair Lawn's the Church of St. Anne, in which he was a member of the choir and leisure club. 

De Padova is survived by his wife Lucy (Ritacco) De Padova; children Michael De Padova and his wife Kathy, James De Padova and his wife Diane, Carol Gravel, and Diane De Padova; grandchildren Sarah, Michelle, Samantha, Wendy, Matthew, Allison, Danielle and Jessica; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from on 2-7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, and from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Rd., in Fair Lawn. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Church of St. Anne, 15-05 St. Anne St., in Fair Lawn. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories, in Washington Township.
