FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Velia (Calace) Sauter , a Fair Lawn resident and formerly of Paterson and Elmwood Park, died Sunday Jan. 17. She was 91.

Born in Naples, Italy, Sauter worked for Manhattan Shirt Company in Glen Rock for 20 years before retiring.

She is survived by her daughters Vittoria Caramagna and her husband Frank, and Catherine Mania and her husband Salvatore; grandchildren Carolyn Matari and her husband Mustafa, Lisa Carriero and her husband Domenico, Danielle Albetta and her husband Tom, Laura Patane and her husband Riccardo, Christopher Mania and his wife Maria, and Joseph Caramagna and his wife Amy; great-grandchildren Sophia Susino, Emily Carriero, Julia, Lily and Joseph Caramagna, Alyssa Patane, Desiray and Jeremy Santiago, Matthew Fede, Ava and Christian Mania, Victoria and Nicholas Albetta, Leila, Farrah and Noah Matari; siblings Liliana Ciancio and Giuseppe; and Rosa Maria Nativo, Gabriella Cabibbo; and other nieces and nephews.

Sauter was predeceased by her husband, Sidney “Pat” Sauter; and her siblings Gabriele, Ferdinando, Bruno, Teresa and Clea.

Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 at the Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home, 274 Market St., Elmwood Park. The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 at the funeral home with a 9:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Anne’s in Fair Lawn. Entombment will be at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
