A 17-year-old driver told police he stopped to let a few vehicles pass before making a left turn from Clinton Avenue to head west on Main Street around 7 p.m.

That's when his vehicle collided with the eastbound bicycle in the intersection, Police Chief Michael Mazzeo said.

AirMed One flew the bicyclist to Hackensack University Medical Center, where Mazzeo said signs early Friday were that he was likely to survive.

Given the severity of his injuries, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Fatal Accident Investigation Unit was summoned, the chief said.

An investigation was continuing, he said, adding that the teen driver "had no signs of impairment."
