YOU READ IT HERE FIRST : Bergen County Police confirmed shortly before 1:30 a.m. that no one was injured and a criminal investigation is under way in connection with an explosive device that CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned was deliberately ignited before midnight outside a Fair Lawn home.
YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A search is under way for whoever tossed a pipe bomb filled with nails that broke through the walls of three Fair Lawn homes, caused other damage and terrified residents, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said today. He wouldn’t confirm it, but a source with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT investigators believe the house was targeted.
The initial report was of shots fired at the Hunter Place residence, just off Halsey Road.
However, it was later “confirmed that there was an explosion from some sort of device, which may have been thrown at or thrown into the home,” a source with direct knowledge of the situation told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
The explosion rocked the neighborhood of mostly single-family homes, some with built-in swimming pools, that fetch more than $300,000. It brought Fair Lawn police and firefighters, the Bergen County bomb squad, the county Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification unit and arson investigators from the county Prosecutor’s Office.
As of early Monday, the crime scene was “still active,” with initial details expected within several hours, Fair Lawn police said.
