Detective Paul Donohue reviewed surveillance video from the Dec. 14 fire in a multi-use building at 13-09 River Road before arresting 26-year-old Edward Ostrowicz, Sgt. Brian Metzler told Daily Voice.

Ostrowicz "entered the unlocked trash room for warmth and set fire to a trash can that burned out of control," Metzler said.

The sprinker system extinguished the blaze, damaging the building, the sergeant added.

A judge ordered Ostrowicz held on $35,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, arson, criminal mischief and failure to report a fire.
