FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- An accused shoplifter from Paterson pulled a pair of hinge pins from a holding room door and had removed two ceiling panels at police headquarters when officers caught him, authorities said Wednesday.

Security officers grabbed Elijah Reyes, 26 of Paterson, after he tried leaving the CVS on River Road with $133 worth of shoplifted items in his pants, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Arrest warrants were discovered out of Clifton, Elmwood Park and Fair Lawn, Metzler said.

A jail had set $250 bail when Reyes tried to escape, the sergeant.

That not only led to an additional charge.

Reyes's bail was boosted to $10,000.

He remained held Wednesday in the Bergen County Jail.
