Danial Dushaj, 21 of Dix Hills, N.Y., was a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested when he failed to comply to officer’s commands.

As officers were investigating the incident and medical personnel were assisting the victim, a bystander told officers he believed that a vehicle, parked in the parking lot in front of Wells Fargo Bank on Fair Lawn Avenue may contain people involved in the initial crash.

Officers approached the vehicle to investigate, but Dushaj, Rodriguez and two other passengers ignored their commands to stop and attempted to flee in reverse, police said. Once stopped, the four occupants were taken out at gunpoint, Fair Lawn police said.

The Volkswagen was located at the operator’s residence on Hartley Place in Fair Lawn and was impounded for investigative purposes, police said.

Rodriguez was charged with second degree aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of an injured person, leaving the scene of a crash with injury, failure to report a crash, reckless driving, careless driving, two counts of failure to produce vehicle documents and failure to inspect. He was held at Fair Lawn Police Headquarters and later sent to Bergen County Jail.

Dushaj, who was found with marijuana after his arrest, was released after being charged with obstruction of justice and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
