Glen Rock PD: Detective Nabs $2,500 CVS Shoplifter

GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- A Georgia national was caught shoplifting nearly $2,500 worth of merchandise in one shot from a Glen Rock CVS, authorities said.

Employees at the Rock Road store confronted Gela Mirvelashvili, 32, who then ran off and left in a vehicle the afternoon of July 16, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.

After reviewing store surveillance footage, Detective Mike Trover identified Mirvelashvili and obtained a warrant, Ackermann said.

Mirvelashvili had been arrested by Midland Park police at a CVS in their town that same day and was being held in the Bergen County Jail, the chief said.

Federal authorities also obtained an immigration detainer.

A Midland Park Municipal Court judge nonetheless released Mirvelashvili pending further court action.

Mirvelashvili, who records show was born in the former Soviet republic, has been living in Brooklyn, Ackermann said.
