YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Fair Lawn police sergeant investigating a hit-and-run accident arrested two 18-year-olds who he said were stoned and carrying metal marijuana grinders and glass pot pipes.

Sgt. Paul Scott was investigating the a crash at Morlot Avenue and John Street last Friday night in which witnesses said a green 1999 Subaru Forester came around the corner, slid and struck a curb and stop sign, Sgt. Richard Schultz said this morning.

Scott was directed to Hedman Place, where he found the vehicle and the two occupants.

“While speaking with both men, Sgt. Scott noticed [they] smelled of burnt marijuana while also appearing to be under the influence,” Schultz said.

The sergeant then found the paraphernalia, he said.

Arrested were the driver, Henry Weiss, and his occupant, Michael Sansone, both of Fair Lawn. They were charged with being under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia and released pending a Municipal Court hearing.

Weiss also received summones for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.
