FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Fair Lawn police detectives chased down a 54-year-old Paterson man moments after he broke into a Glen Rock garage and stole a bicycle, authorities said.
Frank Gonzalez took off onto Route 208 as Fair Lawn Detective Mark Wyka approached him at Maple and Elm avenues last Tuesday afternoon, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.
Detective Sgt. Tim O’Shaughnessy and Detective Anthony Lugo found him hiding behind a trash behind outside a medical building on the highway soon after, Metzler said.
With him he had bolt cutters and the $500 bicycle, which was reported stolen from a Glen Rock home on Radburn Road, the sergeant said.
Fair Lawn police charged Gonzalez with obstruction of justice and possession of burglary tools, then handed him over to Glen Rock police, who charged him with burglary and theft.
Gonzalez was taken to the Bergen County Jail -- then was released by a Central Judicial Processing judge in Hackensack less than 24 hours later, records show.
