Detective Anthony Lugo was in an unmarked car just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when he spotted Amir Montgomery, 25, of Paterson on 3rd Street at Bergen Avenue, Sg.t Brian Metzler said.

He summoned backups who helped take Montgomery into custody after an outstanding warrant for him turned up out of Paterson, the sergeant said.

Besides the goods, officers found him carrying a box cutter and "evidence of drug use," Metzler said.

It turns out the stolen items were taken from a car that had been left unlocked outside a River Road office building, he said.

Police charged Montgomery with burglary, theft and possession of burglary tools and drug paraphernalia, as well as with a Nov. 22 car burglary at a Fair Lawn Avenue residence.

A judge ordered him held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
