Detectives watched the deal go down, then pulled over Gustavo Gonzalez – who lives in McAllen, Texas -- Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

“Each car battery contained three kilograms” of cocaine with a combined street value of $180,000, Grewal said.

Gonzalez, who was ordered held in the Bergen County Jail pending the outcome of drug distribution charges, already was wanted by U.S. Marshals.

The INS also placed a detainer on him, so that Gonzalez can be released only into federal custody from the jail

Participating in the investigation and arrest with the prosecutor’s Narcotics Task Force were agents from Homeland Security and police from Port Authority and Fort Lee, Grewal said.
