FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Fair Lawn police made it official Wednesday morning: A 54-year-old man who was found shot dead in his car outside headquarters Tuesday afternoon killed himself.
Police had to wait for the final determination of the Bergen County Medical Examiner.
As Daily Voice reported on Tuesday, an officer returning from a traffic detail who parked next to the 2003 Chevy Impala found the body around 1:15 p.m.
The victim "had suffered a gunshot wound to the head with a handgun resting on his lap," Sgt. Brian Metzler said.
"From a distance, the Chevy looked like a police car," one officer said Turesday. "You wouldn't have thought anything of it at a glance."
The man wasn't a police officer, the sergeant said.
The Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence.
