Wounded Paramus officer keynote speaker at police academy graduation

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Hometown heroine Paramus Detective Rachel Morgan, shot three times during an encounter with a crazed gunman last year, is the keynote speaker at tonight’s River Vale Junior Police Academy Commencement Ceremony.

CLIFFVIEW PILOT HAD IT FIRST: River Vale Mayor Joseph Blundo made it official tonight during the Junior Police Academy graduation ceremony at the Estate at Florentine Gardens: A surprised and delighted Detective Rachel Morgan discovered that today had been named in her honor in her hometown. River Vale has consistently had the largest number of academy members per capita in Bergen County — and often throughout the state. This year’s graduating class had 142 participants.

Tonight’s event is expected to draw 500 people, River Vale Police Sgt. John J. DeVoe said.

Also on hand will be the Paramus Police Department Honor Guard and the Police Pipes and Drums of Bergen County.

Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
