FAIR LAWN, N.J.– Daniel Burbank announced that he is completing his final week as the band director for Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Henry B. Milnes Elementary School in Fair Lawn.
"I was informed [Monday] that even after reconsideration, the Board of Education has decided against renewing my employment for next school year," Burbank announced in a Facebook post.
Burbank thanked those who spoke on his behalf at a May 17 BOE meeting.
"I will never be able to repay that outpouring, and I don't truly believe that I deserved it," he said. "I can't begin to thank you enough for your support."
"Throughout this you have carried yourself with dignity and grace. Our kids were lucky to have you for the time that they did," Lisa DiPaulo said. "You have left a huge impression on them."
Superintendent Bruce Watson was out of the district and could not be reached for comment Tuesday morning, Executive Assistant Patricia DeFalcon told Daily Voice Tuesday morning.
"I will dearly miss teaching the fabulous students in this district," Burbank said.
