There are three shows: Man or Monster (varsity); Battle of the Ages (junior varsity); and Dream Big (Winter Guard).
Each show – a combination of music, dance and theatre– is less than 10 minutes long and the groups compete within their category, Fair Lawn Friends of Music President Rebecca Graziano said.
"Our home show is a great opportunity for the community to see the work that our students do," she told Daily Voice. "It also provides a great fundraiser for FLFOM.
"We work to support and enrich all music programs in the district. Our parent volunteers help to prepare for the show, from printing the programs, preparing food, requesting donations from the community, to running logistic and selling concessions, our parent volunteers make the day possible."
The event, which takes place at Fair Lawn High School, runs from noon to 5 p.m. and is a tuneup for the varsity before they compete in the Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, Ohio for the third time later in the month.
"While in Dayton, the students get the opportunity to see the best of the best," Graziano said. "World class indoor percussion ensembles are truly inspiring to our students."
"This year, we want to be among the best in the country," said Director Jamie Szeinberg.
The music students practice more than 20 hours a week, Graziano said.
The Winter Guard's performance is a mix of dance and spinning flags, sabers, and rifles.
"This group of students has worked extremely hard to get where they are and I am very proud of all they have accomplished this season," said Director Becca Meeker.
The JV group is the middle school ensemble, which performs in standstill, without the drill or choreography, Graziano said.
This past weekend, Fair Lawn competed at USBand Old Bridge and the Winter Guard, and the varsity and JV Indoor Percussion groups all took first place.
