FAIR LAWN, N.J. — A Hurricane Harvey victim from Houston is on the road to recovery thanks to a group of her colleagues at a Fair Lawn business.
Sharon Steed, who has long worked closely with EME Group, was displaced from her home by the rising waters of Hurricane Harvey last month.
She and her mother were rescued by boat after more than 16 hours trapped in their home, which took on nearly three feet of water, which was rapidly rising when they were finally extracted.
Steed and her family are safe now, but were only able to take a few clothes and personal items.
More than $13,000 had been raised by EME employees for Steed and her family as of Wednesday morning.
