GLEN ROCK, N.J. — A parcel of land in Glen Rock will become the borough's new dog park — if the residents can raise the money needed to build it.
Glen Rock council during a Dec. 9 meeting approved the construction of a dog park on a tract of land behind the the borough's recycling center, located between Upper and Lower Faber fields.
The only stipulation is that the construction be financed entirely by private fundraising, and no municipal or taxpayer subsidies, NorthJersey.com reported.
The idea for the dog park was originally brought forward by Glen Rock High School Junior Michelle Hillock, who submitted it as a Girl Scout Gold Award project in 2013, the article says.
Now Hillock and her mother Eileen are spearheading the fundraising effort by having Glen Rock Dog Park Inc. earn non-profit status from the IRS with help from a page on GoFundMe.com .
The page had raised $1,720 as of Dec. 15, with a stated goal of $75,000.
Eileen Hillock says the dog park will only be built when they reach their fundraising goal.
