John Joseph Pchola, 73, Of Fair Lawn

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- John Joseph Pchola, of Fair Lawn, died on Monday, Dec. 19. He was 73.

Born in Passaic and raised in Jersey City, he resided in Fair Lawn for 42 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Rutgers University. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a parishioner of St. Anne R.C. Church and an honorary member of Knights of Columbus St. Anne’s Council Post 2853 in Fair Lawn. Prior to retiring, he had a lengthy career in purchasing at Llumas, Teterboro and Lotepro Corporation in Valhalla. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time on Long Beach Island. 

He is survived by his wife, Arlene J. (Gloede) Pchola; children, Rachel Pchola-Schirmer and husband Adam and Kevin Pchola and wife Taryn Brucia; and grandchildren, Lilly, Hudson, Madeline and Kate.

The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne R.C. Church, 15-05 St. Anne Street, Fair Lawn. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 or The Valley Hospital Foundation, 223 North Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 would be appreciated. For donations being made to The Valley Hospital Foundation, write “restricted to hospice” in the memo section of the check.
