FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Petrina DiCosmo, a resident of Fair Lawn, died Wednesday, March 23. She was 95.
She was born in New York City and raised in the Bronx,. She resided in Fair Lawn for 60 years.
A faithful parishioner of St. Anne R.C. Church in Fair Lawn, she was a member of the Widows Group. She also was a member of the Fair Lawn Republican Club Committee. A devoted advocate of Catholic Charites, she fostered more than 60 infants and adopted several children, including Anthony, who was the last child she fostered and adopted. Prior to retiring, she was employed with the Fair Lawn Election Board, Archangel College in Englewood Cliffs and Township of Teaneck Board of Education. Upon retiring, she assisted her sons in the daily operation and management of the Front Porch in Hawthorne.
She is survived by her children, Diane DiCosmo, Lois Calvello and her husband Leonard, Vincent DiCosmo, Peter DiCosmo and his wife Susan, Anne D’Andrea and husband Robert, Philip DiCosmo and his wife Paula, Michael DiCosmo, Thomas Churchill and his wife Laurie and Anthony DiCosmo and wife LaShada; her brother, Leonard Calvello; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many with nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent DiCosmo.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-8 p.m. Monday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano-Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral Mass is planned for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne R.C. Church, 15-05 St. Anne St., Fair Lawn. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Queens, N.Y.
