YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: An unlicensed drunken motorist passed out behind the wheel on Route 495 headed into the Lincoln Tunnel yesterday morning — a bottle of Johnny Walker on the seat next to him — and was arrested by Port Authority police after he was unable to stand.
His window was open and the engine of his stopped 1999 Honda Odyssey running in a traffic lane when officers awoke Roberto Sanchez Mata, 43, of West New York, at 10:30 a.m. yesterday, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
His eyes were bloodshot and his speech slurred, he said.
“When he got out, he stumbled and had to be held up by the officer,” Pentangelo said. “He swayed and fell back against the side of his car. He was unable to walk and turn for any testing.”
Sanchez Mata couldn’t walk or turn during an attempted field sobriety test, then refused to take a Breathalyzer, he said.
PAPD police charged him with DWI, reckless driving and not having a license.
