On Swain's agenda is improving water quality, pedestrian safety and revitalizing the downtown, NorthJersey.com reports.

At 59 years old, Swain -- a Democrat -- is an accomplished triathlete who served on the council for 10 years, and was appointed mayor for the second time last week (prior: 2011), the article says.

After contaminants were found in the borough's water, Fair Lawn officials promised the safety was up to par -- and Swain wants to make sure it stays that way, according to the article.
