FAIR LAWN, N.J. — Renovations to the Fair Lawn Athletic Hall of Fame were unveiled last week during its 10th anniversary celebration.
Improvements include new and additional lettering on the photo wall, retouched and reframed photos and a new display case — thanks to donations from the 1959 football team.
There is also a wall-mounted television that plays a DVD with each of the inductees and a segment from Virgil Sasso about the early 1950's.
"It makes me feel really good inside when we are able to honor those athletes who have given their blood, sweat and tears for the high school, their families and the community," Hall of Fame President David Laube said.
Committee members include Mayor John Cosgrove, Bill O'Hea, Cathy Schofield, Matt Biello, Craig Buksar, Karen Van Olden Coles, John Donohue, Steve Gitkin, John Hughes, John Ruhle, Jack and Sue Smithlin, Liz Papa Spear, and Cindy Quackenbush of the Board of Education.
"To hear the stories that not only former athletes but alumni that come back for reunions tell," Laube said, "just makes me and my committee members know that what we do is well worth it."
